We are delighted to announce the formation of the first Irish Charity for Angelman Syndrome!
People with Angelman Syndrome cannot speak. Many cannot walk. Almost all have debilitating seizures and all require life-long 24 hour care. People with Angelman Syndrome are known for their wonderful smiles & warm personalities.
Scientists recently made an unexpected breakthrough while investigating Alzheimer’s Disease and have succeeded in restoring the intellectual, cognitive and motor functioning of an adult mouse with Angelman Syndrome! This incredible result suggests that a treatment for the effects of Angelman Syndrome in humans is possible yet frustratingly remains out of reach due to lack of funding.
The aims of Angelman Syndrome Ireland are:
- Provide a support & information network offering fact based knowledge about living with Angelman Syndrome for families, caregivers and service providers throughout Ireland
- Finance and encourage research efforts in line with current international work to advance understanding and deliver a treatment for Angelman Syndrome for people in Ireland
